The U.S. Census process is beginning, and you need to be aware of who is really ringing your doorbell.

Census workers are verifying addresses across the country and will eventually count every single person in the United States to collect info on name, age, gender, race, and more from each household.  You should not open the door to just anyone.  A U.S. Census worker will have a badge, handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice.  You should not give your Social Security number or any credit card or banking info to anyone, even if they claim to be  a census worker.  You really only need to tell them how many people are living at your address.   Census workers might ask salary questions but you do not have to answer anything about your financial situation.  Census workers will not contact anyone by email.  They get their information by telephone, mail, or in person.
