Ten Questions with Carrie Parsons

1. When did you join Encouragement FM?

1999

2. What do you do?

I'm the morning show co-host with Mike Harper, KGLY afternoon host, and keeper of the events calendar. I started as a part-time, fill in announcer, and then moved to part-time in the evenings (9p-12a) shortly after. Then I hosted afternoon drive (3-6p), and now I'm on in the mornings.

3. Where else have you done similar work?

KOOI in Jacksonville, Texas; KCKL in Malakoff, Texas; KVIL in Dallas (as an intern), and "Cloud 95" in Tucson, Arizona.

4. Where did you go to school?

Palo Verde High School in Tucson, Arizona and Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. I also studied at the National Broadcast Academy in Los Angeles, California. It was actually a correspondence broadcasting school. (Before email, can you imagine?) It eventually went out of business.

5. Describe your family.

My wonderful husband of 16 years, Keith, is my life partner and business partner... and he’s my best friend! Preston, our soon-to-be 15 year-old is home schooled. He's extremely creative, talented and awesome! Chance is our 17 year-old Cocker Spaniel (we’ve had him for 15 years). We all enjoy spend a lot of time together! We especially enjoy going to the lake on weekends and vacationing near the water, ocean or lake, we love them both.

6. What do you enjoy most about working here?

Seeing how God uses the station in people’s everyday lives. Getting a call from someone who says “I really needed to hear that song today.”

7. Why are you working in this ministry rather than in the for-profit/secular world?

I think it's because I believe in it so much. It's rare to find a radio station that is safe for my family, and at the same time is enriching to my spiritual life. When I first stumbled across Christian radio I was a fairly new Christian. The songs really helped me to stay centered on Christ throughout the day. When I think about what it means to me and how it is such a great ministering tool and encouragement for others, I have to thank God for the privilege of being a part of it.

8. Share a funny story about working here.

One Saturday I was working in the production room and I was the only one here... I thought. Someone else came in and, when they got ready to leave, not knowing I was here, they set the alarm. I had the shock of my life when I left the production room and the alarm went off. It was so loud!

9. What is your best memory/proudest accomplishment from your time here?

(Editor's Note: Carrie is the last person on the planet who will tout her own accomplishments. But if she doesn't give us an answer soon, we're going to let you tell us what Carrie's done for you and put that here!)

10. What do you hope to accomplish here?

I just want to remember to glorify God in all I do, and to create great memories along the way.
