10 Questions about Susan O’Donnell
1. When did you join Encouragement FM?
I came to the station in 2013.
2. What does your job entail?
I am the Program Director and Afternoon on-air host. My job means anything and everything that comes out of the speakers is my responsibility. I oversee programming, music selection, promotional and imaging messages on air and supervise all of the on air staff as Program Director. As afternoon on-air host, I get to play great music and hang out with my friends on the radio every day, sharing encouraging messages, scriptures, fun tips, and sometimes just a good laugh! It’s a great job!
3. Describe your family.
I am a single mom with two daughters. My oldest daughter Sarah Beth is a 5th grade Science teacher and engaged to be married to Orion in November of 2016. She’s won Rookie Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year two years running at her school in Spring, Texas. My younger daughter Megan married young and married Patrick in 2006. Patrick brought me two gift-with-purchase granddaughters, “Lil Megan” and Jo. Then four years into their marriage, “Big Megan” and Pat gifted us with my grandson Ryan who is now 6 and a Little League All Star. Lil Megan has given me my first great-granddaughter, Mayla Raine, who is 2. I also have two older brothers having been raised by a single father.
4. What do you enjoy most about working here?
I love the opportunity to play music about Jesus, do excellent radio that rivals any other stations around, and that I get to interact with our listeners. I also dearly love all of my co-workers! To be a part of such a dynamic and loving “family” who support one another this way is to come to work for the Lord every day without it ever feeling like a job.
5. Share a funny story about working here.
In the ice storms two years ago, when the entire parking lot of the old radio station was covered in ice, Jarrett and I (Jarrett worked in promotions) decided we would put on sequins and do an ice skating routine on the parking lot. Jill was videoing us with turns and spins. After it was all over, I realized she hadn’t actually videoed any of it! By then, the ice was melted and our rink was gone.
6. What do you hope to accomplish here?
I want to help improve the quality of what we do on air at KVNE and KGLY and continue to grow our audience because that means more and more people are hearing about the love and grace of Jesus.
I want to become the station that is known for prayer… So much so that whenever anyone things about needing prayers, they think of calling our station because they KNOW we will always pray for them!
7. If you could witness one event in history, what would it be and why?
The incident with the tanks at Tien Neman Square.
At that moment, one single person stood in front of that huge tank believing that they could stop it and change the course of history…and it worked! To be reminded that one human can do what they can do and make all of the difference!
8. If you had one free hour each day, how would you use it?
I’d go fishing… with or without bait!
9. If you had to choose an existing movie title to describe your life, what would it be?
It’s a Wonderful Life!
10. What’s the strangest talent you have?
I can juggle.
