I wish I had pictures in my possession of little Nicole, standing up during the 7th inning stretch, a little sad our home team wasn’t doing so great, but still cheering and happy to be at an Astros Game with her family of 5, trying to make sure her younger siblings were watching everything!
As you get older, going to any sporting events can get harder and harder, so going to games to root-on my Astros became more seldom. But it didn’t mean I stopped caring, stopped cheering, or stopped feeling sad when they would get so close and lose things all over again (hello 12 years ago – still have scars from that World Series). So to be up last night well past my “bedtime” was a must, and I’m so glad I (and yes, even The Hubby who isn’t a big baseball person) did just that, because history was made and I got to see it!!
Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”
Waiting – it was something the Astros did for 55 years, and what every fan of the team has done right along with them. But there truly is a time, God’s time, for everything in the lives we have. And with all that Houston, my birth-city, has gone thru this year, plus all the memories of sweet family-gatherings watching the home team play, this was a much BIGGER win then most would think. The waiting paid off!
Some see it as just a baseball game, but it was so much more to so many, a way to bring everyone together and remind each other that the city CAN keep going, and WILL keep pushing forward, because it’s Houston Strong!
And on top of that historical moment for many, one player, Carlos Correa, made history himself! That I know of, he’s become one of the first World Series Champions to propose on National TV to his girlfriend, making it a night of joyful tears and stories that will be told over and over again!
