Summer is on the way, and we all want to get out and have some fun! East Texans are blessed because we have so many interesting and fun places we can enjoy - without breaking the bank! Here are just a few!Caldwell Zoo
David King Caldwell started the zoo in 1937 when he opened a child development lab at his home. The zoo was complete with parrots, monkeys, squirrels and more. The zoo grew adding a variety of animals and several buildings. Finally in 1853, the Caldwell Zoo opened officially. The zoo is considered one of the finest zoos in the United States.
The zoo has animals from North America, South America, the African Savannah, the African Aquarium, the North America Herpetarium and the Wild Bird Walkabout. Of course there is delicious food to enjoy, awesome gift shop and beautiful scenery.
Longview Parks and Recreation
Longview Parks and Recreation offers beautiful parks, golf courses, walking trails, splash pads, disc golf, and a city pool. You’ll enjoy the beautiful East Texas pines on any trail you walk. The trails range from 3 miles to .75 miles, so it’s your choice!
Most trails have restrooms, drinking fountains and picnic tables. The little ones will have the best time at the Splash Pads, and the older kids can swim at two city pools! If disc golf is your game, they’ve got that too. They even have 3 golf courses – Wood Hollow, Oak Forest and Pine Crest.
