A few months ago I turned 50. I didn’t have any problem with the big birthday. In fact, I really celebrated that day!
Thing is…ever since I turned the big 5-0, I’ve noticed bags under my eyes…and wrinkles.
“Were those there before?” I say to myself as I look in the mirror. “Maybe I’m not getting enough sleep.” Nope, still there. Every. Day.
I even spent nearly an hour in the cosmetic isle looking for a beauty cream to get rid of them. Too many choices there, but that’s another story.
The Bible talks about our obsession with beauty. 1 Peter mentions hairstyles, gold jewelry, and fine clothes – all the visible things we do to make ourselves beautiful. It goes on to talk about what God finds beautiful in us: a gentle and quiet spirit.
God would rather see us work on becoming beautiful on the inside — the kind of beauty that lasts forever.
So if you’re down because you’re not the perfect weight, you can’t find anything to wear, or you’re starting to notice those wrinkles more, remember the kind of beauty that God says is of great worth. Spend some time with God today, and let Him tell you you’re beautiful.
