You see something in a magazine and decided to point it out to your husband or wife. One question leads to another, followed by remarks that start to blow waaaay out of proportion. All of a sudden you are frustrated beyond any sane word, and can’t do anything but sigh…or cry…or act mute for a few minutes. Even the best of relationships go through a moment of petty fighting, so how do you back-track out of it?
What I realized earlier today is to remember that the arguement is just that–PETTY!! If we’re to love one another like Jesus has loved us time and time again, then why make the magazine article, the TV commercial, the big sign on the Highway push that love right out the front door? It’s highly unlikely that Jesus heard one of the disciples talking about a new idea in catching fish, and next thing you know Jesus and the disciple can’t even look at each other!
Because Jesus was a perfect being, arguments like this would have never come into the conversations with the men he called brothers. So it makes sense that, because we are imperfect, situations will arise like this…but we can choose to solve it fast and LOVE!! It’s not an easy thing in the heat of the moment, but it’s what we’re called to do just as God does with us the so many times we think our opnions are better than His. For my husband and I, we backed off from the conversation for a minute, re-racked, and ended-up asking for forgiveness with a sincere, “I love you” attached!
How have you dealt with these moments in your life? Would love to hear from you at Nikki@kvne.com
