My Lovely Wife and Life Partner Lois was working childcare at our church, when the department head burst in, closed the door, turned out the lights, and declared, “Lock Down. Active Shooter.”

The ladies quickly acted out their training, scooped up the infants and crouched in a corner of the room.

Fortunately, it was over in a few minutes. False alarm.

What a sigh of relief! But what a few minutes it must have been for those women and the unsuspecting precious ones under their care. What must they have been thinking? Who would they call?

If you were suddenly in a similar situation, what would be your reaction?

It’s enough to cause one to take stock in his or her life and perhaps assess priorities. If you were to be in the unthinkable position of those dreaded words, “Active Shooter,” who would come to your mind?

The unpleasant reality is we’re not guaranteed tomorrow in this life. But God guarantees us a perfect life with Him forever if we simply give up control of our lives by an act of childlike faith and trust Him.

It’s the truth.

I encourage you to take stock of your blessings, your relationships, and your priorities and consider this sobering notion.

“If I thought today was the day, who would I call, what would I say, and would I be okay?”

The answer is as close as the mention of His name.

“I fall so short. I surrender and believe. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.”

“…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9
