89.5 KVNE Afternoons
So, I recently moved into a house after a couple of years of apartment living. I was so excited about having a lawn and garden and the opportunity to putter in my yard.
When I started mowing, I saw there were damaged areas of my lawn. There were places where the growth, whether it was grass or flowers, had not only ceased, but had died off. A closer look and I saw tracks below the surface that meant I had moles — rodents that were working underground! While I couldn’t see the little stinkers, their damage was so obvious!
I think our life can be like that. We see the damage that is wrought in our heart, our spirit, or our mind. Sometimes we miss the true cause. It becomes necessary to get deeper and realize that below the surface of our life there is that spiritual or emotional “mole” that is working in the darkness beneath us doing damage that shows. Maybe it’s a past hurt, a past choice that haunts our thoughts, or something that chains us to our past.
It doesn’t do any good to repair the damaged grass or flowers in my yard if I don’t get rid of the true culprits. Those suspicious moles are cancer to my lawn. Without excising them, the damage will return and even be worse than before.
Too often, we try to repair the damaged areas of our life without digging down to the true culprit of our wounds. Those suspicious moles and spiritual cancers in our life will continue to cause those damaged areas to return and even worsen.
So, get down to the real pain and leave it behind. It’s not worth the damage it’s causing!
Philippians 4:7 – But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
