No Fight Like a Facebook Fight

Have you ever seen a social media post that was so preposterous, so offensive, so just plain WRONG it made you mad?

Of course you have.

Have you ever given into the temptation to correct them? (All in Jesus’ name, of course) After all, they needed straightening out. What they said was so uncalled for, pretentious and rude. You just couldn’t let it go!

How’d that work out for ya?

You know what happens next. Just a dizzying, spiraling, whirlwind of derogatory, self-righteous, passive-aggressive comments back and forth that produces absolutely no results, but only attracts a larger angry mob of on-lookers and chimer-inners! It NEVER ends well.

I love the ones who drop a bomb and try to end it with, “Have a nice day.”

Let’s face it. A lot of people are just plain wrong about stuff. Sometimes really, really wrong. In fact, we’re all wrong about something. And as followers of Christ, we have no choice but to show grace when others err, even if loudly and publicly. Because we’ll eventually need that grace shown to us.

So when that same guy shows up on my page again, arrogantly flaunting his views, I have to remember Jesus. He loves me even when I’m wrong. When He said “Father forgive them, they don’t know what they’re doing,” He was talking about me.

Facebook fights help NO one. They only cause more strife. Just move on. Watch cat videos. They’re hilarious.

And they’re much safer.
