I’ve had friends who, when they realized they were entering their 30’s, got a little emotional. I guess from what TV Shows, Movies, Magazines, and Social Media inform us of, when you reach 30, if you haven’t done anything INCREDIBLE, you haven’t lived life (and you might be too late).

My response to this mentality is STOP IT!!

On the 29th of October, I turned the awkward age of 33. It’s not awkward because I’m awkward (that’s a whole Blog Post for another day and time). It’s awkward because, well, it’s 33 years old…you’ve been able to rent a car for quite a few years now, you’re already past 30, and you’re too far from 40. Overall, it’s just a weird number, so it’s a weird age to be. But, if anyone knows me, they know I LOVE my birthday, no matter what age I’m turning.

And that takes me back to this whole “Oh my goodness, I’m about to be 30! My life is over” mentality that predominantly women have. Ladies (and some gents), it’s only a number, and that number has NOTHING to do with how you actually feel and what stuff you can or “can’t” do. When you worry about your age, you don’t get the awesome ability to actually celebrate another year of life The Lord gave you, or embrace the next year He’s about to walk you through.

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of WISDOM” -Psalm 90:12

So my challenge for you is this: when your next birthday comes up, embrace that day! Don’t sulk, don’t sigh, but let everyone around you know it’s your birthday and eat whatever you want to your heart’s content. Act like your 9 year old self and dance even if people are watching!
