How often do you ACTUALLY feel good about yourself? You may shrug this question off, but I challenge you to really think about this, because you’ll probably come to the conclusion I came to recently…that this is still an issue for me. That there are still times when I don’t feel good about myself, because either the internet, social media, or my own mentality is reminding me of my “flaws.”
Recently, I was verbally hurt by an individual over the phone, and even though I know the attack wasn’t specifically for me, I was still hurt. And there came all of my insecurities and fears:
- Did I not choose the right words to answer their question?
- Am I really doing a poor job as Music Director?
- Am I being too “safe” with decisions I make in life?
- Will this effect the rest of my co-workers?
- Are other people going to hate me for this call?
After talking about this with others around me, I was able to calm down some and look at the whole moment in a different light. Maybe THAT person is struggling too with how they feel about themselves, and I was just wrong place at wrong time. That individual could’ve been hurt earlier and taken the hurt out on me…even though it really wasn’t about me.
“But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” –Mathew 10:30-31
Our God, your Almighty Dad, wants you (and I) to know that we are loved above all, above whatever words are are thrown our way or whatever we may think of ourselves!
