The faith-based movie “Overcomer” is finally in theaters! Baptist pastors and brothers, Alex and Stephen Kendrick, have another win with this movie. “Overcomer” had a strong opening, placing third at the box office its opening weekend and it grossed more than $8.2 million at over 1,700 theaters.

You may remember that the Kendrick brothers also directed and produced the films “War Room,” “Facing the Giants,” and “Fireproof.”

“Overcomer” follows the life chances of basketball coach, John Harrison, played by Alex Kendrick, who loses his team as hundreds of people move out of town following the closing of a manufacturing plant.

Harrison is a Christian man who saw his identity in his accomplishments. As a result, the coach begins coaching a sport that he doesn’t even enjoy. He reluctantly takes on a female cross-country runner who pushes her limits on a journey that leads her toward self-discovery in God.

You’ll see Priscilla Shirer of course, as the principal and the lead actress is young Aryn Wright-Thompson as Hannah.

This beautiful film is about loss, seeking God and self-discovery. Don’t miss it!

“But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.” – Deuteronomy 4:29
